STUDY IN AUSTRIA

Take classes in the history of the French Revolution,and then board a train to France when class ends.Learn more about the history of christianity one day,then travel to Rome and other hallowed sites of Christendom the next.


After their freshman year,all Franciscan students have the opportunity to study for one semester in Franciscan University of Steubenvilles Austrian program.The picturesque village of Gaming,nestled in the foothills of the Austrian Alps,serves as homebase for the 150 students who take advantage of this program each semester.They live and study in a forteenthcentury Carthusian monastery,restored to its original Baroque splendor.


Program highlights:

*classes are available every semester,and now even for a session during the summer.

*Students follow a fourday class schedule that includes a selection of courses from history,philosophy,theology,art history,or foreign language.

*Tuition,room, and board at the Austrian Program are the same as the Steubenville campus.

The Kartause:

The former monastery that serves as dormitory and home base,the Kartause Maria Thron,is an international historical landmark.The Kartause serves as an elegant hotel during summer months,and was the first functioning hospital in Europe.Its location in central Austria positions it as an ideal central point for explorations throughout Europe: eastern and western.With the Eurail pass,students can ski the Swiss Alps,see the Mona Lisa at the Louvre,and take a gondola ride in Venice all within an easy travel day from the Kartause.
